The reality of so many people from two families coming together is almost always "miscommunication". These always start small and become bigger. Happy Birthday centers around the lives of five very different people who share the same birthday as well as varying problems of self-acceptance, family tensions and unrequited love. Although not produced by NRI Films, one of the movie's five leads is played by Devashish Saxena of NRI Films. Devashish plays Javed, a Pakistani facing deportation and separation from his American lover to his estranged Islamic family.
